Head coach Tom Landry had the Dallas Cowboys in the Superbowl for the second consecutive year. This time they faced off against Don Schula's Miami Dolphins. The Cowboys were on a roll, having won eight consecutive games after settling on Roger Staubach as the starting quarterback. Bob Griese led the passing attack at quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.
